An Android box is essentially a user friendly, compact personal computer specifically made for a seamless experience on your HD TV. It can be attached to any TV with a HDMI port instantly transforming your TV into an Android Smart TV. They are very versatile and powerful little devices, capable of playing media (video or audio files) from local storage (USB flash drive, USB hard drive or SD card), a NAS (Network Attached Storage) device or via the web through a browser or media center such as Kodi (formerly XBMC).

You can also install apps and games from Google Play Store (free and paid), surf the web, browse YouTube, watch your favorite shows on Netflix, Crackle or PlutoTV, listen to your favorite jam via Google Play Music, check your local weather in just a click or tune in to your local radio station via TuneIn Radio.

All you need is a high speed internet connection! Ideally a speed of 10 Mbps (equivalent to 1.25 MB/s) or more is best. 5 Mbps will work but you may experience freezing/buffering with high quality streams. You can test your speed at: fast.com or speedtest.net

All TV Boxes with Android purchased from TV Genie come with several apps for watching live and on demand movies and TV shows including Kodi 17, FilmOn Live TV, FilmOn Kids, Crackle, YouTube, Netflix and several other apps available from Google Play Store. The interface is also customized to be as user friendly as possible.

Kodi / XBMC is a popular Media Library for Android. It allows you to import your own digital media files, through your network storage media and presents them in an elegant fashion with fan art, cover photos and descriptions. It also has the capability of doing the same with online media sourced through the internet. Kodi is open source and capable of being installed onto any Android TV Box. Third party developers have created apps to use within Kodi. Team Kodi is not affiliated with third party apps in their platform. (The same way that TV Genie is not affiliated with any third party apps created for the Kodi platform). Kodi is 100% Legal to install and use.

Some third party apps which the user can install into Kodi search the public domain (public internet) for streams. The same way that if you were to search Google for “example tv show “or “music video stream” and click and watch the content that Google retrieved for you. The stream could infact be hosted on Google Video, YouTube, Daily Motion or other online hosts. Therefore in searching the public domain for streams, you are accessing media which is readily available to the public already on a PC, laptop or mobile phone (literally any device you own which has access to the internet). It is assumed that this is absolutely LEGAL.

You can move your TV Box between TVs if you want to do so. However, you can’t access the TV Box from a TV that isn’t directly hooked into it (like some PVR’s allow). For the best experience, one box per TV works best. Since shipping is free though you can always buy one first to make sure you like it without losing money from paying extra shipping.

You can connect your TV Box to the internet using either a wired or a wireless connection. To use a wired connection, simply plug your ethernet cable into the box, if using a wireless connection, set it up in Settings > Wi-Fi. Ethernet cable is always more reliable compared to WiFi.

The Rii i8+ mini keyboard with trackpad will work with virtually any smart device with a USB port, this includes all computers. It does not require Bluetooth to work. If you are purchasing the Minix Neo U1 you don’t need this since it comes with a air mouse/keyboard combo. We highly recommend you the i8+ keyboard with any other Android box we sell because it’s way more convenience compared to the standard remotes.

With the default add-ons you’ll get add-ons that legally stream some Canadian channels, US Channels and many UK channels (which do have a lot of American programming on them). There are also apps and add-ons where you can search for what you’d like to watch.

Several sports add-ons are included and allow you to watch clips, and some live events. There are also a few add-ons installed that require a subscription to use. Major sporting events, such as the Superbowl, can be viewed using the USTVnow plugin which is free. The FilmOn.tv app has lots of Live MMA and Boxing streams.

The quality of the video and these add-ons varies a lot, from quite poor (but watchable) to HD. Any live stream is less reliable than on demand and if missing one game once in a while is a big deal, you should use an alternative for sports such as a cable subscription or NHL/NFL/NBA/MBA subscription.

From your main Android Box screen go to Settings.

1. Select Network.
2. Then Wi-Fi.
3. Turn Wi-Fi device "On"
4. It will start scanning for available networks.
5. Find your home network on the list, select it and login by entering your password.

If your screen display appears to large or small on your TV:

1. From your main box home screen, go to Settings. 
2. Then select Screen Position. 
3. Use the zoom in or zoom out options to adjust the display until it fits OR screen stretched to the edges of your your TV display.

4. Then select Location 1
5. Input your city
6. Then select your city from the list of cities
7. Then select OK

If you are connected to equipment that supports surround sound, simply follow these steps to enable it.

1. From within DDTV, select SETTINGS.
2. Then SYSTEM.
3. Then select Audio output.
4. Change number of channels to match your setup.
5. Select Enable passthrough
(This should give you access to several fields below it)
6. Select Dolby Digital or DTS to match your setup.

Streaming requires a strong internet connection, even more so if you wish to stream in high resolution settings. We highly recommending using an Ethernet connection when possible as wi-fi may cause interruption or a laggy connection. We recommend that your internet speed should be at minimum 25Mbps (although you can stream with as low as 5 Mbps, but that's no fun). You can check your internet speed using Speedtest.

Follow these steps if you are having streaming issues:

1. Restart your modem and/or router by unplugging the power source 30 seconds. Once complete, reconnect the power source and allow your modem and/or router to start up.

2. Restart your Android TV Box but powering down completely for 30 seconds. Once complete, boot up your Android TV Box.
